The Anambra State government has perfected plans to establish Innovation Centre to enhance youths’ productivity and creativity.

Governor Willie Obiano said this during Anambra State Technical and Creative Day at Marble Arch Hotel, Awka.

“The centre will be a multi-million naira project, with ultra-modern facilities that to accommodate massive number of youths in the state.

“And arrangements have been finalised to sponsor seven relevant commissioners and a few other government officials to Innovation Centre at Boston, U.S.

“They will undergo a two-week painstaking study on various innovative ideas that will be duplicated in Anambra,” Obiano said.

The governor, who spoke on the state of technical schools in the state, said “In 2014, none of the 11 technical schools was accredited. But now, we have 12 technical schools, with over 24 accredited subjects.

“Since then, my administration has awarded tuition free education to all students in the 12 technical schools in the state.’’

While stressing the 7,500 accommodation capacity of the technical schools, the Government maintained that adequate perimeter fencing and erosion control had commenced to provide maximum security.

Bonaventure Enemali, the commissioner for Youths entrepreneurship and Creative Economy, said that the event was an opportunity to showcase various skills and projects constructed by youths of Anambra State.

“The state government in April 2018, opened entry for youth’s creative ingenuity.’’

No fewer than 2,000 applicants were subjected to screening, out of which 1,000 youths were selected.

“The youths will represent Anambra in different international presentations and join Anambra Young Innovators trained in different skills in different categories such as dancing, script writing, acting, music and Technovation,” Enemali said.

Kate Omenugha, commissioner for Basic Education, commended Obiano for investing heavily in education.

“And the display of skills is enough evidence of the Governor’s vision to make the youths more productive,’’ Omenugha said.

There were displays of various skills ranging from construction of automobile, confectioneries, furniture and award presentation to the best performing youths in different skills.
