THE Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm, Iliya Fenu, has denied receipt of an impeachment notice purportedly served on him by seven members of the legislature.

Fenu, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, said he only heard in a rumour that he had been served a letter of impeachment.

NAN gathered that seven aggrieved members of the legislative arm through a letter dated Aug. 6 served the speaker an impeachment notice.

He said: “I just heard it too the way you did. I have not received any such letter and I assure you, there is nothing as such going wrong between me and my colleagues.”

The signatories to the letter included Monday Yakubu (APC-Kawu Ward), Joshua Ishaku (APC-Dutse Alhaji Ward), Sa’ad Suleiman (APC-Kuduru Ward) and Bulus Thomas (APC-Shere Ward).

Others were Yunusa Hamza (APC-Byeazhin Ward), Aliyu Salihu (APC-Kubwa Ward) and Sanasa Dayabi (APC-Igu Ward).

The legislators alleged in the letter that one ground for the impeachment notice was the speaker’s gross incompetence and misconduct contrary to his oath of office as enshrined in the constitution.

“ That your conduct is unbecoming of a speaker of legislative arm by creating divisions among members of the house and feeling of not being part of the house.

“ That you have failed to carry out your duties as the speaker of the house on grounds of absconding from your office.

“That you, without recourse to the provisions of the law, have incessantly and unrelentingly misappropriated house’s funds, thereby bringing the house to dispute and ridicule,” they stated.

NAN further gathered that the notice of impeachment was copied to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, the Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bwari area council and some security agencies, among others. (NAN)
