Two hours after Olumide Osoba, the son of a former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, rejected his name on the consensus list of the Ogun State All Progressives Congress, which put him under Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, he (Olumide) has said unknown persons are threatening his life.

He claimed in the new statement that the threats were also targeted at his immediate family members.

The younger Osoba, who had expressed surprise finding his name on the consensus list under Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, said he had represented the people of Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber between 2011 and 2015.

Speaking about the threats, he claimed in the statement, “It is of great importance to bring this to the knowledge of members of our great party, APC, and the general public that since I released my press statement on the alleged ‘consensus list’ wherein my name was listed as one of the candidates of our party in the forthcoming general elections without my consent or consultation, unknown persons have been threatening my life and that of my immediate family members.

“This is done in order for me to rescind the press statement and applaud the procedure that produced the list. The threat to my life or that of my family members is not the way out but obedience to lawful directive and policy of the party.

“I, Olumide Babatunde Osoba, stand by my earlier press statement that I only support the direct primary ordered by the National Working Committee of our party.”

Another APC chieftain in the state, Tunde Oladunjoye, had raised the alarm on Sunday that his life was under threat, as he was forced to move a motion on behalf of the Ogun East to adopt the Ogun West consensus candidate, Adekunle Akinlade.

However, barely 24 hours after the event, Oladunjoye had claimed in a statement that the state chairman of the party, Chief Derin Adebiyi, had threatened him with ‘dire consequences’ if he failed to move the motion on behalf of Ogun East. – Punch
