The Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has declared that the two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in the state who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, were not members of his cabinet.

The two chieftains, Mr. Akopebi Lubi and Dr.  Benson Enikuomehin who were Senior Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs and Special Assistant on Oil and Gas to the governor respectively, recently resigned their appointments and immediately defected to the PDP.

The duo had earlier left the PDP before the 2016 governorship election in the state and now returning to the party.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Segun Ajiboye on Tuesday, Governor Akeredolu said some media reports claiming that the defectors were members of the state executive council, was untrue.

The statement said, “The two aides of the governor who resigned their appointments were not members of the state executive council.

The two former aides, Dr Benson Enikuomehin and Lubi were senior special assistant and special assistant respectively. Akeredolu wishes the two success in their future endeavors.

In the same vein, the chairman of the APC in the state, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, has reacted that the resignation and defection of the two former aides of the governor, saying the development could not distract the party from winning the forthcoming presidential election in the state in 2019.

Adetimehin said, “President Muhammadu Buhari will have a landslide victory in this state, though I wish the people that left us well, their departure cannot stop our victory next election.” – Punch
