A GOVERNORSHIP aspirant in Ekiti State, Mr Debo Ajayi, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to use the right process in choosing the party’s flag-bearer for the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state.

Ajayi, who served as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning under former Gov. Kayode Fayemi, made the plea in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

The aspirant said the growing list of aspirants for the seat was not abnormal, but the only issue that could work against the chances of APC was faulty primary elections.

“The list in APC is long because the sentiment is in favour of APC, and naturally, it will attract a lot of quality aspirants into the election; that is good for democracy.

“I am not concerned about the list; what is really important is that the process that will generate who carries APC flag has to be free and fair.

“The process has to be credible so that the chances of APC will not be endangered by having the wrong candidate carrying that flag.

“As long as APC has the process right, this is good for APC and Ekiti because people right now are disenchanted with the present administration and looking for a credible alternative.

“I am hopeful that the right governor for Ekiti in 2018 will set the state on the course of leading the rest of the nation in terms of development.

“If the process is good, APC will have a very good chance of forming the next government. God forbid, if APC loses this chance, that could be the end of the progressives in Ekiti,” Ajayi said.

He said that no past government had been able to utilise good assets in the state, stressing that if given the opportunity, he would rally all assets to create wealth.

The aspirant said leaders should think beyond physical infrastructure and deal with people’s financial vulnerability and poverty issues.

Ajayi advised Ekiti people to choose right and shun politicians who induce them with money, to move the state forward. (NAN)
