VICTOR Umeh, senator representing Anambra Central, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to review list of its Ad-hoc staff to ensure credibility.

Umeh made the call while addressing journalists shortly after the postponement of the elections by INEC, at his house, Aguluzigbo, Anaocha, LGA, Anambra State.

Sen. Umeh, who is also the senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, in All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, expressed worry that some candidates may smuggle names of their relations in sensitive positions.

This he said would be in order for them to be able to manipulate figures in their favour.

Sen. Umeh who noted the economic loss Nigeria recorded on Feb. 16 said INEC would increase its financial strength to meet the demands of credible elections.

The senator observed that the postponement saved his constituency from mayhem, as opponents had mobilised thugs to destabilise the anticipated free and credible elections.

According to him, the postponement exposed nefarious plans of the opponents, who had mobilised thugs in various locations of Anambra Central Senatorial District to wreak havoc during the election.

“Having mobilised thugs and criminals across the Local Government Areas, LGA, in the senatorial district, they were disappointed that the election was postponed.

“Out of frustration they destroyed my billboards across the zone. I have alerted the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Mustapha Dan Daura of this development,” Umeh noted.

He added that since the elections had been postponed, there is need to extend campaign to reawaken the consciousness of the people, to urge them to not be discouraged.

“According to the Electoral Act, every campaign ends 24 hours before the election and since it has been postponed, campaign should be on till 24 hours to the election,” he quoted.
