PETER Umeadi, the immediate past chief judge of Anambra State, has said the only solution to Nigeria’s socio-political impasse is for an Igbo person to become president of the country for eight years.

Umeadi observed that Igbo made immense contributions to toward the development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and therefore, deserved to be afforded the privilege of serving in that capacity.

“There is an obvious marginalisation; they have been suffering within the Nigerian federation.’’

The retired chief judge made this known during his recent reception into the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, at his hometown, Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State.

Umeadi called on Igbo stakeholders, elders and other well-meaning individuals to champion the Igbo course and work unanimously to produce president from South East Zone.

In a speech during the event, Umeadi said the essence of joining APGA was to identify with the progress recorded so far, by Governor Willie Obiano-led administration in the state.

According to him, our governor has done well in changing the fortunes of the state in his five years in office.

“We must come together and team up with him in any capacity he would want us to serve to ensure further good governance to the people of our dear state.

“Having looked at all these, I have thought it wise to join APGA. This will enable me to identify with the prevailing wishes and aspiration of the Igbo race.”

He described the game of politics as a venture and vocation, in which the goal of every player must be the upliftment of human dignity.

“Politics should not be seen as a do or die affair,’’ he added.

He commended Obiano for judiciously piloting the affairs of the state, especially as it concerned prompt payment of workers’ salaries and general welfare of the masses.

“So, I have come to my ward today to associate with my people and identify with my ward. Any lawful instructions my ward chairman gives me that, I shall do.’’

Austin Igwebuike, the chairman Nri Ward One, and Anthony Udoji, the special assistant to the governor on Events, expressed their joy, saying that the retired chief judge’s wealth of experience in law and justice would help to boost the fortunes of the party in future elections.

The event, which attracted many political stalwarts, climaxed with the formal registration and presentation of party card to Prof. Umeadi.

Umeadi is currently a visiting professor of Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
