THE Federal Government is to spend additional N100 million on rehabilitation of some dilapidated portions of the Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road this year.

Engr. Adedayo Adebayo, the Kano Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.

Adebayo said that necessary arrangements had been completed for the award of the contract.

NAN reports that the I25 kilometre road links Kano State with Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States as well as the neighbouring Niger Republic.

“The contract for the rehabilitation of the road was awarded between 2016 and 2017 based on scope and amount allocated,” he said.

He said the federal government had so far spent over N39 million on direct labour on the road, involving patching of potholes and shoulders repairs, among others.

The zonal coordinator said the ongoing rehabilitation of the Kano-Wudil-Kwanar Huguma road had reached 80 per cent completion.

Adebayo said the contract which was awarded at the cost of over N100 million covered patching of potholes, carriage way overlaying, covert washout repairs and shoulders repairs.

The FERMA boss gave the assurance that the work would be completed before the end of this month.

He said that when completed, it would reduce the increasing number of road crashes being recorded on the road almost on daily basis.

According to him, the agency had also carried out vegetation control in the notorious Falgore forest in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano state. (NAN)
