Galadiman Ruwan Zazzau joins Kaduna State gubernatorial race

DR Ja’afaru Sa’ad, a traditional title holder of Galadiman Ruwan Zazzau, has declared his intention to contest for the Kaduna State gubernatorial election on the platform of People’s Democratic Party in 2019 general elections.

He made the declaration while presenting his letter of intent to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the party secretariat in Kaduna on Thursday.

He said his decision to join the contest was borne out of the  fact that ‘he has all what it takes’ to move the state forward if given the mandate.

“I want to thank the leadership of the party for the warm reception accorded me and effort toward ensuring that the party put up a victorious fight, come 2019.

“I am here primarily to formally declare my intention to contest the governorship of Kaduna State in the 2019 general elections on the platform of our dear party.

“My mission is to restore PDP’s rightful place in the state and ensure the needed unity of the people of Kaduna State who are now divided along religious and ethnic lines.

“But primarily, my interest is on youths and women capacity and economic empowerment if given the party’s ticket and eventually wins the election,” he said.

He encouraged the people of the state, particularly those without Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to take advantage of the extended period for voter card registration to get registered.

According to him, “The people cannot not effect the change of leadership they desire without getting the PVC.

Responding, Mr Hassan Hyat, the chairman of the party in the state said the party would be fair to all aspirants, adding that whoever emerged as candidate after primaries would be supported by the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that so far 12 aspirants had indicated their interest to contest for the Kaduna State gubernatorial election in 2019.

They include the immediate past governor of the state, Ramallan Yero, former NEMA Director General, Sani Sidi, and Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), who recently defected from the ruling party, APC.

Others are former House of Representatives member, Isah Ashiru, who also defected from the APC, Mohammed Kadade, Bello Kagarko, Jonathan Kish, Shuaibu Mikati, Sani Bello, Ibrahim Dauda and Mohammed Sani. (NAN)
