Anambra State Government says it is readiness to extend partnership with private contractors for proper reconstruction facilities at Ogbunike cave.

The cave is located in Ogbunike, a community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra.

Governor Willie Obiano said this while inspecting the asphalting work at Ugwunwasike-Azu Ogbunike-Amawa-Osile-Ifite-Umueri-St. Monica College Road.

Obiano said the state had completed the design for upgrade of infrastructure in the cave in order to meet global standards.

He noted that the infrastructure, when upgraded would attract more tourists and increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

The governor said that his administration embarked refurbishment of 45km roads in Ogbunike and asphalted 80 per cent of the road.

He, then, promised to install streetlights and other standard road furnishing.

Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor said asphalting works were ongoing across Ogbunike simultaneously.

Ifejiofor noted that the state fully mobilised the contractor handling the roads and would deliver before the end of May this year.

He said that asphalting had commenced the 12km road of Ifite-St. Monica Road, saying 3km asphalting had been achieved.

Yinka Amosun, site engineer, said they had completed the installation of drainage channels and earthworks, as the asphalting would be finalised in two weeks.

Amosun, while promising speedy attention to the roads, said the erosion menace discovered while constructing the roads would be immediately handled to avoid escalation.
