The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it plans to display voters’ register for the electorate in Plateau between Nov.6 and Nov. 12, ahead of the 2019 general poll.

Mr Imahiyereobo Osaretin, Head, Voter Education and Publicity of the commission in the state made the disclosure on Friday in Jos.

Osaretin said the register would be displayed in all the 2631 polling units and 207 registration centres in the state.

He said the display would enable prospective voters to make claims and objections on the information about them as recorded by the commission.

Osaretin said the register had been cleaned up as names of deceased persons, under-aged voters and non-Nigerians had been removed.

“INEC wishes to inform Plateau residents that it will display the register of voters in all polling units for claims and objections from Tuesday, Nov. 6 to Monday, Nov. 12, 2018.

“In line with the above, the commission will be at the 2631 polling units and 207 registration areas to entertain claims and objections designed to enhance the credibility of the voters’ register,” he said.

He said the exercise which will commence from 9 am to 3 pm daily is meant to give credibility to the register with a view to ensuring a credible poll in 2019.

Osaretin said all those who registered as voters were advised to visit their designated polling units to cross check whether their names are on the register.

“They are to check if their names are correctly spelt, omitted etc, and raise objection(s) if any, regarding the inclusion of name(s) of person(s) who are not eligible to be on the register,” he said.

He said the distribution and collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) would be carried out within the period at the registration areas simultaneously and urged those who registered between April 2017 and March 2018 to go and collect theirs.

He explained that those registered between April 2018 and when the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) was suspended should expect theirs at a later date. (NAN)
