THE Kwara House of Assembly on Tuesday directed its committees on Public Petition and Justice to investigate allegations of fraud levelled against Saheed Popoola , a member of the All Progressives Congress, representing Ojomu-Balogun
The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad gave the directive after the House had received three petitions on alleged certificate forgery and issuance of dud cheque against the lawmaker during the plenary.
The petitions were presented to the House by Adebayo Mohammed (APC Ipaye/Malete/Oloru)
In one of the petitions titled Save Our Soul (SOS), Mr Popoola was alleged to have issued a dud cheque to one Dr Abdullahi Ahmed.
The Speaker referred the petitions to the House Joint Committees on Public Petition and Justice for thorough investigation in a bid to ensure fairness.
Ahmad said although, the constituents demanded that the embattled lawmaker be suspended based on the allegations, the House will not act like a military regime.
The joint committees were given two weeks to report its findings back to the House.
Mr Saheed Popoola refuted the allegations and described them as calculated attempts to drag his name in the mud
He said he would remain calm until the outcome of the probe by the committees. (NAN)
