Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) said it realised N44.8 million as internally generated revenue (IGR) between January and August this year.

Mr Seni Ogunyemi, the Commander of TRACE, disclosed this on Monday when members of Ogun Assembly Committee on Transportation paid an oversight visit to the agency in Abeokuta.

According to Ogunyemi, the revenue generated were basically from traffic fines and charges.

He explained that the agency had ensured drastic reduction in road accidents across the state, saying that 11, 697 people were rescued unhurt while 12, 800 traffic offenders were apprehended in the period under review.

He added that TRACE had established additional commands at Agbara, Ayetoro, Ikenne, Oke Odan, Ogbere, Ogijo, Ijebu Igbo and Odeda areas of the state.

He said that the agency had established community based traffic management scheme to enlist public participation in safety matters.

“The agency has increased public safety consciousness and behavioural pattern of road users to total compliance of road ethics,” he said.

Ogunseni, however, decried paucity of personnel and vehicles, adding that the agency was currently in dire need of 65 Hilux vehicles and 1, 500 additional staff to boost its coverage across the state.

Responding, Mr Razak Oduntan, Chairman of the committee, commended the efforts of the agency in ensuring free flow of traffic around the state.

The lawmaker enjoined the agency to block loopholes in the area of revenue generation.

He called for a downward review the fines and charges saying that pffenders must be penalised but with moderation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that committee also visited the State Bureau of Transportation. (NAN)
