Orientation: Gov Ikpeazu tasks corps members on entrepreneurship

GOV. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia , has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to focus more on skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development during their service year in the state.

Ikpeazu made the call on Friday during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ orientation for corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government of the state.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Ude Okochukwu advised the corps members to make good use of the opportunity the management of the scheme had offered in entrepreneurship.

He said that such activities would help to equip themselves towards self-employment after service.

Ikpeazu assured that his administration would continue to provide the enabling environment for the scheme to thrive in the state.

Mrs Francesca Ifon, State Coordinator, NYSC, said that a total of 1,896 corps members were registered for the three-week orientation.

She said that the number consisted of 1,125 males and 771 females.

Ifon thanked the governor and the NYSC Director-General, Maj. Gen. Sule Kazuare, for their immense support in making the camp conducive for corps members.

She urged the corps members to obey all camp rules and regulations to avoid sanctions.

The Chief Judge of Abia, Justice Onuoha Ogwe, who was represented by Justice Thomas Adiele, administered the oath of allegiance on the corps members.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony which was billed to start by 8:00am could not start until 11:45 am after the arrival of the governor. (NAN)
