A former governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state to unite to prevent another defeat in the 2019 general elections.

Udenwa, who spoke during the inauguration of the PDP campaign council in Owerri, attributed the party’s defeat in the 2015 elections to brazen anti-party activities and betrayal of trust by some party members.

He spoke of the need for the PDP to fight collectively in order to win the battle ahead.

The former governor described the party’s governorship candidate in Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, as a “seasoned politician and a man of honour and integrity”, and urged the party faithful to troop to mobilise votes for him.

He said, “Let us bear in mind that we are working for ourselves and not just for Ihedioha or for Atiku Abubakar, otherwise we will crash again.

“Since the past four years, God has been with us in the PDP and our party has been the most stable in Imo State and in the nation at large.”

Udenwa, also a former Minister of Trade and Industry, added that Nigerians want the PDP to win the general elections.

Speaking at the event, member of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, described Ihedioha as a humble, obedient, submissive and intelligent democrat that has all it takes to govern the state.

“He (Ihedioha) has been tested and trusted. He did well as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and so, let us join hands to get him and other candidates of our party to win,” Iwuanyanwu said. – Punch
