THE Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JNAPD, in Enugu State has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to decentralize Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centres to ward levels.

The state Chairman of the association, Mr Onyema Anioko made the call in Enugu on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Anioke said that it had been difficult for its members to register in the ongoing exercise due to their peculiar position.

“It is a serious problem for those of us who cannot walk and the visually impaired to travel a long distance to register and also collect our cards.

“For that, greater members of the association will be disenfranchised in general elections and any other one. So, if the exercise is decentralized to primary schools and wards, a great number of us will be registered.

“I have made a case to INEC in Enugu State but nothing has been done to that effect,’’ he said.

The chairman said the situation had discouraged them from participating in the exercise adding that the electoral body should consider their numerical strength in the country.

“INEC is not interested in us so we are skeptical in participating in the CVR and elections in general,’’ he said. (NAN)
