AT last the Nigerian Senate has thrown out the Anti-Social Media Bill 2015. The Senators took the decision following the report of the committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the bill.
Delivering the report, Senator David Umaru, chairman of the Committee, said the bill was opposed by almost all stakeholders during the public hearing on it. He therefore said, his committee recommended its withdrawal. Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President, who presided over the plenary, on Tuesday, May 17, also backed the withdrawal.
The bill sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah set the Senate against the public when it passed through second reading in 2015.
