THE National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has warned corrupt politicians within and outside the state to steer clear of the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The National President of the Association, Mr. Gbemileke Ogunrombi, gave the warning in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Ogunrombi explained that local government had remained the closest to the masses, saying that it would be a disaster if people with selfish interests were allowed to manage such tier of government.
He called on all political parties to field candidates who had lived and plied their trades within their local governments and the state for chairmanship and councillorship posts in their respective local governments.
“We call on our political parties to resist corrupt and selfish politicians and the money bags by fielding candidates who are living and plying their trades within the local government and the state.
“NAOSS is aware that some elements, who are not concerned about the good of the state but only about their selfish interest and those of their godfathers, are planning to hijack the local government administration in the state.
“These money bags, who are not based in the state, only want to reap where they have not sowed. They do not have the interest of the people of Ogun at heart; they are only coming to loot the state’s treasury.
“We are warning this set of people to stay away from Ogun politics because as students, we cannot afford to standby and do nothing while they take over the state.
“As students and youths with a huge stake in the development and progress of the state, we will not allow anybody to destroy the good work of Gov. Dapo Abiodun, who has been doing everything possible to develop the state,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no date has been fixed for the local government elections in the state. (NAN)
