Zamfara Commissioner urges public to expose rape cases in their communities

ZAINAB Lawal, Commissioner for Women, Children, and Social Development in Zamfara, has appealed to people of the state to expose any rape cases in their communities.

Lawal who made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Gusau on Monday urged the people of the state to assist the government with information on rape cases across the state.

She appealed to parents and guardians to always monitor their children in order to protect them from the ugly act.

“Though people have been cooperating with the ministry in this regard we need more support from parents, guardians, and communities.

“The ministry in collaboration with stakeholders in the state is working to enlighten the general public against rape and dangers associated with it.

“As mother agency to women and children in the state, the ministry is ever ready to protect their interest.

“The state government under Gov. Bello Matawalle through this ministry is giving much concern to programmes to improve the lives of vulnerable groups in the state.

“The state government is ever ready to deal with anybody found committing the bad the act.

“We are collaborating with security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, and other stakeholders to reduce the rape cases in the state”, she added.

The Commissioner said that the rate of rape cases has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown not only in Zamfara but all over the world.

She noted that the rate at which rape cases affect children was alarming, saying that most of the victims were children between two to 12 years. (NAN)
