Pompeo begins 4-nation tour in Czech Republic
Foreign
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday kicked off a tour of four European countries with a visit to the Czech Republic.
His visit is coming after President Donald Trump in late July announced a reduction of the U.S. military presence in Germany and as the U.S. works to counter Russian and Chinese influence in Europe.
Pompeo landed in Prague and was scheduled to travel to Pilsen to commemorate the liberation of Western Czechoslovakia by the U.S. Army in the Second World War.
Back in Prague, he has talks lined up with Prime Minister Andrej Babis, with what Washington says are the malign actions of Russia and China on the agenda.
Pompeo is due to visit Slovenia and Austria on Thursday and end the tour in Poland on Friday. (dpa/NAN)
