Poor, Vulnerable to get Monthly Stipends in Anambra under `Cash Transfer Programme’

ABOUT 13,000 households in Anambra State have been shortlisted to receive the N5,000 monthly stipends in the Cash Transfer Programme initiative.

Cash Transfer Programme is one of the Federal Government projects, under the Social Investment Programme aimed at poverty alleviation of the poorest and vulnerable in the state.

No fewer than 100 facilitators were recruited to participate in this exercise with the task of ensuring that the beneficiaries receive their stipends at their door steps.

Chinwe Iwuchukwu, deputy focal person, Social Investment Programmes, Anambra State announced this, during the flag off the programme at IDK Learning Centre, Awka, on Sept. 27.

The two-day step down training programme for local government cash transfer facilitators, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State reaffirmed the willingness of the state to participate in initiatives that would be to the benefit of ‘Ndi Anambra’.

“His Excellency is so much interested in the affairs of its people, he takes interest to the plight of his people; that is why the state was the first in the South East to kick start the programme’’.

Governor Obiano was represented by Azuka Offormata, permanent secretary ministry of Social, Welfare, Children and Women Affairs.

The governor, advised the facilitators to take the programme seriously and adhere to the rudiments of the programme.

He urged them to ensure that the beneficiaries of this project receive their stipends as and when due.

Iwuchukwu, who also doubles as the senior special assistant to governor on donor agencies, commended the governor for his support to all Social Investment Programmes.

Iwuchukwu adds: “Governor is ever ready to support any programme that will benefit Ndi Anambra’’.

She also assured them of the readiness of her team to commence the payment next month.

Kola A. Solomon, national training officer, commended the governor for his efforts at ensuring that Anambra became the first to start the programme in South East.

He also assured the support of the national office in ensuring that the payment would commence in October.
