POP Media Group (PMG), organisers of Pop Culture African Awards, says it will reward social change planners aiming at curbing vices among youths.

Chinedu Nmegwah, PMG Spokesperson, who made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos, said the inclusion of the award was to celebrate and encourage the organisers to do more for the society.

He said that nominations and voting for the social change entertainment and other events awards would hold at a date between September and October, while the event proper would hold in November in Enugu.

“The entertainment industry is rolling out events which are capturing attention of youths in the country and we observed that such events are channelled toward social change.

“As part of steps to widen the scope of the awards, this second edition will recognise personalities who are piloting social change events through entertainment across the country.

“Activities toward the event will start next month and roll over to October which has to do with nomination and voting of the events and personalities behind the whole idea,” he said.

Nmegwah said that such social change events were needed as it served as measures to curb vices that were capable of adversely affecting their future and society at large.

“Social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, inordinate ambition, sexual abuse, examination malpractice, thuggery and others are eating deep into our society.

“These events are organised to say ‘NO’ to such ills because today’s youths are the leaders of tomorrow. It is therefore, necessary to reward those behind this vision,” he said.

The spokesperson added that the categories that would be looked out for in the awards were event of the year, event planner of the year and event event entertainer of the year.

According to him, charitable organisations and individuals that had lived up to their corporate social responsibility in the society would also be rewarded during the event. (NAN)
