POPE Francis gave five schoolchildren a treat during the weekly general audience in St Peter’s Square on Wednesday.
The 86-year-old invited the kids to join him in the popemobile.
The boys and girls took a tour with him through the crowd of thousands of believers who had gathered in front of St Peter’s Basilica.
The children followed the pope’s example and waved at the audience.
Some also took the opportunity to take pictures with their mobile phones.
The popemobile is the name given to the vehicles used by the pope during his public appearances, both at the Vatican and abroad.
The term became popular during the tenure of Pope John Paul II (1978 to 2005). (dpa/NAN)
