GlobalData announces power industry contracts activity in November 2019

POWER industry contracts activity in November 2019 saw 269 contracts announced, marking a drop of 9 percent over the last 12-month average of 296, according to GlobalData’s power database.

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 91 contracts and a share of 33.8 percent during November 2019, followed by Europe with 78 contracts and a 29% share and North America with 56 contracts and a 20.8 percent share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 25 contracts and a 9.3 percent share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 19 contracts and a 7.1 percent share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 116 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 76.

Wind tops by technology in November 2019

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 86 contracts and a 36.8% share, followed by solar with 79 contracts and a 33.8% share and thermal with 42 contracts and a 17.9% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment during November 2019, with 108 contracts, followed by Power Plant (86) and Electricity Procurement (36).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows: Supply & Erection: 121 contracts and a 45 percent share; Project Implementation: 76 contracts and a 28.3 percent share; Power Purchase Agreement: 35 contracts and a 13 percent share; Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 21 contracts and a 7.8 percent share; Consulting & Similar Services: 15 contracts and a 5.6 percent share; and Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.4 percent share.

Power contracts in November 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were: government of Vietnam (Vietnam): 2,200MW from one contract; Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Thailand): 1,225MW from one contract and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (United Arab Emirates): 900MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were: the AES (United States): 2,200MW from one contract; Zhejiang Electric Power Construction (China), ZheJiang Electric Power Design Institute (China) and Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction (China): 1,320MW from one contract and Xayaburi Power (Laos): 1,225MW capacity from one contract.
