Health
AS the Parasitology and Public Health Society (PPSN) concludes plans to hold its 48th annual conference, Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo, President of the association, says food safety will be the focal point of the event.
Sam-Wobo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the event which will hold from Oct. 8 To Oct. 12 in UYO has the theme” Stored Food Products and Public Health Concerns.
He explained that food safety was one of the key areas of focus in public health, because it affected people of every age, race, gender, and income level globally.
According to him, the theme of the conference is timely as both local and international food marketing continue to have significant impacts on food safety and health of the public.
Sam-Wobo said:” Food supply chains are now cross multiple national borders which increase the internationalisation of health risks.
“Proper food safety practices help reduce exposure to chemical contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and mycotoxins.
“Long-term exposure to these contaminants can lead to chronic health issues, including cancer, kidney damage, and neurological disorders”.
The parasitologist added that experts on food safety will dissect and address the common public health risks related to food safety issues in the food market. (NAN)
