A  practitioner, Mr Taiwo Olukoya, has called for adequate support for traditional medicine practice to enable researches that would boost operations and save more lives.

Olukoya, who practises at Eredo, Epe, Lagos State, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Epe on Thursday that financial and other forms of support would empower traditional medicine practitioners to break new grounds.

He appealed to the three tiers of government to give more attention to the industry.

“We want government to create an enabling environment for the profession to thrive.

“We want to be recognised and identified as experts in medical practice.

“We are confident of our work and we know we can  provide more solutions to people’s health challenges.

He said that traditional medicine had provided faster and reliable solutions.

Olukoya said that traditional medicines were made from herbs, roots, leaves, stems, and water, among others natural materials.

“These are natural –  from God – not manmade,” he said.

According to Olukoya, many traditional medicine practitioners in Nigeria,  work closely with their counterparts in other African  countries to provide solutions. (NAN)
