The presidency expresses concern with inconsistent manner of addressing the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at official functions and provides a new format which shall henceforth be strictly adhered to
CONCERNED about the inconsistent manner in which Muhammadu Buhari, president, Federal Republic of Nigeria is addressed during official and private functions, the government has provided a standard format for addressing him at such formal occasions.
According to a circular from the office of the secretary to the Federal Government obtained byRealnews, “the president shall henceforth be addressed as ‘‘Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” except in purely Armed Forces Programmes, where “COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA” will be added.”
Signed by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, the circular advised all concerned persons to accordingly be guided and ensure strict compliance.
It was sent to the chief of staff to the president; deputy chief of staff to the president; all ministers; head of Civil Service of the Federation; a special advisers; senior special assistants; service chiefs/inspector general of police; Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria; chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission; chairman, Police Service Commission; Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau chairman, and Federal Character Commission.
Others who received the circular are chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission; chairman, National Population Commission; chairman, Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission; chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission; chairman, Economic and Financial Crime Commission; Commission; chairman, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency; chief registrar, Supreme Court of Nigeria; auditor-general of the Federation All permanent secretaries; Clerk of the National Assembly; secretary, National Judiciary Council; accountant-general of the Federation; director-general/chief executives of Parastatals, Agencies and government owned companies.
