President Buhari removes Service Chiefs

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari appears ready to rejig the security apparatus of the country because of the worsening of insecurity in Nigeria and the unending war on insurgency in the country.

On Tuesday, January 26, Buhari sacked his service chiefs most of whom have reached retirement age but he retained despite the protest from some vocal Nigerians.

Those who have been axed finally are Lt. General Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff,  General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, chief of defence staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.

They were replace by Major-General Leo Irabor, chief of defence staff, Major-General I. Attahiru, chief of army staff, Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, chief of naval staff and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.

The new service chiefs were announced in a statement on Tuesday by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on Media and Publicity.

According to the statement, Buhari thanked the services chiefs on effort to bring enduring peace to the country.

The President congratulates the new Service Chiefs, and urges them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.
