President Tinubu means well for Nigeria – CDHR
Politics
THE Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) says President Bola Tinubu means well and he is passionate about addressing the challenges in the country.
CDHR President, Mr Debo Adeniran, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos, while reacting to President Tinubu’s National Broadcast to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
Adeniran, who is also the Executive Director of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL), urged the President to revisit some of his reforms to alleviate sufferings and economic hardship.
“We have heard his (Tinubu) message of hope again. We know the President means well for the country and the people of Nigeria.
“There is the need for more action to ease the hardship. He has urged Nigerians to be patient, but for how long?”, he said.
Adeniran said that some people were working to ensure that some of the reforms of the President never materialised.
On the President’s plan to organise a 30-day Youth Conference, he said that such conference would not bring any positive result.
“Tinubu does not need any youth conference again, the youth have spoken loud and clear about want they want.
“What this administration needs to do is to address some of the issues raised during the “#EndSars” and “#EndBadGovernnace” protests.
“Such conference will end up being another waste of scare resources.
“They have asked for return of fuel subsidy to reduce the hardship in town, and if this cannot be reversed, the people should see the impact of the proceeds in their lives,” Adeniran said.
He said that instead of providing loans for students, the government should provide grants and more scholarships.
According to him, education should be totally free as least for primary and secondary education, for the masses to be relieved of some burdens.
NAN reports that President Tinubu, in his address earlier on Tuesday, said that his administration was taking appropriate measures to reduce the cost of living.
He said that his administration was retooling the economy through necessary reforms, to serve Nigerians better and more sustainably.
The President said that FG would convene a National Youth Conference to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting youths. (NAN)
