Prices of egg, tomato, rice crash in September – NBS

DESPITE the closing of the Nigerian borders, data from the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, showed that the prices of some food items are dropping. The report indicated that the average price of one medium-sized dozen of agric. eggs decreased by -3.37 percent to N456.81 in September from N461.89 in August.

The NBS in its report on selected food prices for September showed that the average price of agric. egg medium size (price of one) increased year-on-year by 0.32 percent and month-on-month by 1.80 percent to N41.30 in September from N40.57 in August. Similarly, the average price of 1kg of tomato decreased by -30.69 percent to N227.50 in September from N223.86 in August.

The average price of 1kg of rice (imported high quality sold loose) decreased year-on-year by -0.05 percent and increased month-on-month by 4.07 percent to N371.13 in September from N356.61 in August. Likewise, the average price of 1kg of yam tuber decreased year-on-year by -32.13 percent and increased month-on month by 0.10 percent to N190.23 in September from N190.04 in August.
