Primate Stops Re-location of Bishop's Court to Umuleri
BREAKING NEWS, Religion
–
THE Primate of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh has ordered the Bishop of Niger-West Diocese, Rt Rev Innocent Ekwe to stop forthwith the construction of his Diocese’s Bishop’s Court at Aguleri and begin same project in Umueri, the Diocesan headquarters.
It will be recalled that contrary to the Anglican Church’s tradition of locating the Bishop’s Court at the Diocesan Headquarters, Bishop Ekwe had begun to build the house in Aguleri, an action which had attracted the wrath of the Umueri community and other Anglican faithful in Anambra State.
Following petitions and representations made by different categories of people against Bishop Ekwe’s move, Primate Okoh set up a panel of inquiry into the matter. The panel headed by the Archbishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt Rev Christian Efobi, found Bishop Ekwe’s action incomprehensible, indefensible and confrontational, hence its recommendation for the rescission of the decision.
However, authoritative sources say work is still on-going at the Aguleri site in spite of the Primate’s order. A source who craves anonymity says Aguleri people are bent on completing the house, which the Bishop has promised them, may be turned into a guest house at the end of the day.
Realnews could not reach Ekwe as at press time.
