Prof. Sulaiman re-appointed D-G of NILDS

PROF. Abubakar Sulaiman has been re-appointed as Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) for a second term effective from May 28.
The reappointment is contained in a statement issued by Mrs Joke Akinsanmi, Deputy Director of Information, Communication and Protocol, NILDS ,on Friday in Abuja.
Akinsanmi said that Sulaiman’s reappointment was approved by the Senate President and the entire leadership of the National Assembly.
She said the tenure was expected to last for four years.
“Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman has been reappointed for another four-year term by the President of the Senate and Chairman of NILDS’ Governing Council, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, in consultation with the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Alternate Chairman of NILDS’ Governing Council, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila.
“The reappointment will take effect from May 28, while President of the Senate has congratulated him, urging him to continue working towards achieving the core objectives of the Institute as outlined in Sections 2-3 of the Institute’s Act (as amended),”the statement said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sulaiman, a Professor of Political Science and International Relations, is a former Minister of National Planning and Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission.
He was first appointed director-general by former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki in 2019.
Prior to his first appointment as DG, Suleiman, a technocrat with vast experience, served as a resource person for the induction courses, organised by the NILDS for new legislators in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.
The professor also served as Deputy Chairman, Nigeria Economic Council and Transition Technical Committee.
Sulieman, who was a Nigerian delegate to the United Nations Ordinary General Assembly in 2015, holds a BSc degree, Political Science from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He holds a Masters of Science (MSc) in International and Strategic Studies from the University of Jos and a PhD, in 2003 from the University of Abuja. (NAN)
