GOV. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged media organisations to project the country positively to the world.
Sanwo-Olu made the call during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) to the state’s seat of power in Alausa, Lagos on Tuesday.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said that dissemination of well-vetted and truthful information would project the country positively.
“It will also attract foreign investors and aid economic development,” he said.
The governor said that positive public commentaries are important for the development of any country.
He said that spreading negative and false news are detrimental to the growth of the country.
Sanwo-Olu commended BON for their professionalism in information dissemination and management.
He said that the state government would support the organisation in its hosting of the Culture, Art and Creative Summit.
“This will be a good way to further project the state positively to the world, as key players in the creative and entertainment industry of the country and making the nation proud across the world.
“On the Creative and Entertainment Industry, five Nigerian musicians were recently nominated for the Grammy Award, which means that we are doing something right and great,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of BON, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, said the essence of the visit was to solicit the support of the state government towards hosting of the Culture, Art and Creative Summit which would involve all radio and television stations in the country.
Bamgbose stated that the idea of holding the summit was to bring critical stakeholders in the entertainment sector to further project the image of Nigeria through the entertainment industry and contribute positively to the growth of the country.
“Nigeria is not a pushover when it comes to entertainment and if there is any area that is giving the country a good image today across the world, the entertainment industry is one of them,” he said. (NAN)
