THE Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, has urged religious and community leaders to promote peaceful co-existence for development.

The speaker made the call on Saturday at the funeral service of the Village Head of Songo-Barau, Chief James Beiwa in ECWA Church, Songo-Barau, in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.

Jatau said that no nation could achieve meaningful development without peace, hence the need for his call in that direction.

Jatau recalled how the village head supported his political ambition and his peaceful disposition which has cemented a peaceful coexistence among diverse nationalities within his domain.

The speaker called on his subjects to emulate his good virtues for the growth and development of Songo Barau village and the state.

“I want to call on religious and community leaders to promote tendencies that will entrench harmonious living as a basis for encouraging societal growth and development,” he said

The speaker prayed to God to forgive the late village head his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.

Also, eulogising the virtues of the village head, one of the illustrious sons of the village, the former Accountant General, Mr Zaka Yakubu in the state, noted that the deceased was instrumental to the introduction of western education in the locality.

He reminded parents that the most cherished legacy they would bequeath to their “children is western and religious education”.

In a sermon, Rev. Nenza Alfa of ECWA Church, Songo Barau, warned Christians against accumulating  material wealth at the detriment of God’s service.

He reminded  all that “death is inevitable, hence the need for believers to have trust in God at times by avoiding negative acts at all times”.(NAN)
