MRS Modupe Akanbi, the Proprietress of a private nursery and primary school in Ilorin, has canvassed for women support in the country in order to eradicate poverty.

Akanbi, who made the call in Ilorin on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said women should be empowered to reduce poverty rate in the country.

She said poverty would reduce when more women are empowered and supported to be self dependent.

“Women are the mothers of a nation. They deserve to be taken care of. They will touch so many lives, if given the opportunity.

“Women are not selfish. They are nation builders who love to spread wealth to the needy.

“Government at all levels should invest in women and see drastic reduction in poverty rate in the country,” she said.

The proprietress also called on NGOs and private individuals to include women in their plans for a better society. (NAN)
