THE Coalition of Pro -Democracy Groups for A Better Nigeria has urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the nation, given the Day One assessment of #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest.
The National Coordinator of the coalition, Mr Awa Bamiji, in a statement on Friday in Lagos, said that the violence and looting that greeted the demonstration on its first day had made the address imperative.
“We advise President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, to take a decisive action by addressing the Nation today with aim of quelling the protest.
“If possible, the President can also do this by inviting the military to team up with the policemen on the field, to avoid further loss of lives and properties in Nigeria,” Bamiji said.
The activist, however, said that hunger and inflation are global phenomena, hence the need for the protesters to listen to the voices of reasoning.
“We must at the same time draw our attention to the major factors that are responsible for our peculiar problem in Nigeria,” he said.
NAN reports that the protest, which started on Thursday, crippled socio-economic activities across states as motor parks, shops, malls, markets and roads were deserted.
The first day of the protest recorded violence and looting in some states like Niger, Kaduna, Jigawa, Abuja among others.
The protest, planned to end on Aug. 10, is aimed at drawing the attention of the Federal Government to the hardship faced by citizens. (NAN)
