Protest: Peace Institute urges calm, restraint
Politics
THE Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), has called for tranquility and moderation ahead of the planned protests against the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Dr Joseph Ochogwu, the Director General of the Institute, who made the call in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, urged all groups involved in the protests to exercise caution and restraint.
He acknowledged the challenges the nation is undergoing and said that it is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.
Ochogwu said that there is a need to proceed vigilantly to prevent aggravating the already delicate state within the nation.
He said that with the delicate nature of the current situation, any actions that could disrupt this peace would be counterproductive; especially considering the context of President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
“This agenda, aimed at revitalising the nation’s prospects, requires a stable environment to succeed.
“Protests, while a fundamental right, can sometimes be counterproductive if not carefully considered,“he said.
He said that protests could disorganise the efforts aimed at addressing the nation’s challenges.
Ochogwu who cautioned against fanning the embers of crisis and disunity, emphasised on the need for unity and collective effort in navigating the difficult times.
“This call to action is a reminder that, even in the face of adversity, careful consideration and strategic thinking are essential,“he said.(NAN)
