DR Olugbenga Owoeye, Medical Director, Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, (FNPH) Yaba, has reiterated the management of the institution’s commitment to staff welfare and promotion.

Owoeye made the assertion  in Lagos during the 7th Annual Structural Training of the Senior Staff Association of University Teaching Hospitals, FNPH Yaba Chapter.

He said that the training was to prepare members of staffs for promotion.

According to him, the hospital believes that organising lecturers, trainings and revisions with members of staff before they go for promotion examinations will help to refresh them.

“This is a kind of capacity building programme and part of the welfare package to improve on the quality of  members of staff.

“The essence is to ensure that they do well in the promotion exercise.”

He said that the hospital’s management was also looking at creating units that would have directors to enable people express  themselves and showcase their capacity in their various disciplines.

He cited an example in the clinical services department/unit, which had various units like specialist in substance abuse units, children and adolescents units among others.

“The various units are manned by various specialists, two or three consultants with doctors or nurses of various cadres.

“If we have units like that, it will enable people to develop along their own line of discipline and not that alone, they would be able to put in their best,” Owoeye said.

He said this was the reason behind unbundling of the units rather than just clogging them together.

Speaking, Mr Omoniyi Olalekan, Chairman,  Senior Staff Association, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba, said that the hospital prepared its members of staff ahead of time for promotion examinations.

According to him, aside from training, the union also looks at the welfare of it members.

“We use this  medium to call on the Federal Government to hasten on the issue of CONHESSS adjustment, pending COVID-19 allowance and hazard allowance.”

He said that the union had been demanding and was using the opportunity to call on the Federal Government to pay the remaining balance of COVID-19 inducement allowance to his members.

Olalekan, who also doubles as the Coordinating Chairman of the Senior Staff Association Federal Area Council,  Lagos State, said that the issue of CONHESSS adjustment,  had been on for a very long time.

“I, therefore, appeal to the federal government to looked into all pending allowances and urge that they be paid”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlight of the occasion was the presentation of award to the MD of the institution, Owoeye, for his meritorious service to the hospital. (NAN)
