A Non Government Organisation (NGO), Zaytun Humanitarian Foundation, has distributed food items and clothes to 500 orphans and the less privileged in Kano, ahead of the Muslim’s fasting month of Ramadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the month of Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar calendar, is the period when Muslims in the world observe fasting and prayers for 29 or 30 days.
The Foundation Project Coordinator, Muhammad Sani-Abubakar, while launching the distribution on Wednesday in Kano, said the gesture was meant to alleviate the sufferings of the poor during Ramadan.
Sani-Abubakar said the beneficiaries were selected from different parts of the state to put smiles on people’s faces.
Items distributed include rice, maize and clothing materials for children, men and women.
The coordinator added that “the gesture is aimed at teaching other Muslims to give charity to the poor in this Holy month of Ramadan.
“Zaytun Foundation was established in 2014 to assist the needy, especially orphans and the less privileged.”
He called on wealthy individuals to support such gesture by providing food to the needy, as one of the teachings of the noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon).
A widow, Maimuna Muhammad-Bello, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the foundation for the gesture and urged others to emulate the gesture. (NAN)
