A woman politician in Lagos State, Ms Yemisi Ransome-Kuti, on Monday, advised women to use opportunities presented them to play prominent roles in the country’s political space.

Ransome-Kuti gave the advice at an event organised by the Woman and Half Initiative (WAH), and sponsored by Zenith Bank, Accion MicroFinance, Studio 24 and a host of other prominent brands including  Zaron Cosmetics.

The theme of the programme held at a Civic Centre was “Thankful”. It had physical presence of 50 professionals and hundreds of women participated via the virtual platforms.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was a platform for women to strategise, organise and reposition their lives and businesses as they emerged from a lockdown.

She said, “Women should now more than ever before own their truth, play very prominent roles in the political space while not losing their true essence as mothers, wives and powerful partners in the society.”

Ransome-Kuti, the 2011 Lagos Central Senatorial Candidate for Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP), urged women to summon the courage and be prepared to challenge the system until a true democratic system was achieved.

Earlier, Mrs Chile Frank-Udemgba, the organiser of Woman and Half Initiative event, said the theme for the programme was billed as a coming-out event from the pandemic.

“The WAH Initiative was designed to present a unique platform for professional women to draw strength from one another as they struggle to balance competing roles while building a strong network,” she said.

Frank-Udemgba, also a Banker and Promoter of the 1,000 Miracle Foundation, said the programme was the third in a series.

She hope that it would keep running as the vision was to build a new army of professional women.

Other speakers at the event included Mrs Rashidat Adebisi, the Chief Client Officer of AxaMansard, who spoke on Blooming in Crisis – From Silent Majority to Decision Makers.

Mrs Ini Abimbola, Founder/Member of the Board at Thistle Praxis, also spoke on “The Lockdown and The Family”.

The event attracted selected number of very influential women professionals like Mrs Modupe Mujota, former Commissioner for Education in Ogun, now member Ogun House of Assembly, among others. (NAN)
