THE Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, has urged the Public Relations (PR) unit of the scheme to re-align its strategies to meet current standards.

He gave the task on Thursday in Abuja during the opening ceremony of the 2023 NYSC Protocol/Press and Public Relations Officers’ Training Workshop.

The workshop has “Managing and Improving the Reputation of the NYSC: The Roles and Responsibilities of PR Officers” as theme.

Ahmed said that as reputation managers, they should realign their PR strategies to effectively tackle emerging challenges.

”The training will be comprehensive as it encompasses the critical elements of your job profile, including reputation management, protocol and information management.

“At the end, you are expected to raise the bar of your output, particularly in monitoring the media and issuing timely rejoinders or releases to counter negative publications.

“Similarly, we expect remarkable improvements in the NYSC Radio and Television programmes, and our in-house publications.”

Ahmed said that to further equip them for optimal discharge of their responsibilities, the management of the scheme would henceforth be sponsoring PR officers to attend the FRCN Training School, the NTA TV College and NIPR training programmes.

He also said that the management would soon embark on comprehensive upgrade of PR Units of the scheme across the country with modern communication gadgets in line with prevailing technological demands of PR practice.

”Already, the equipping of the new studio for NYSC TV is ongoing.

“I expect you to reciprocate these gestures with increased commitment to your duties”, he added.

The Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr Eddy Megwa,  said that given the increasing scrutiny of the affairs of NYSC by stakeholders, there is need for round the clock vigilance by the scheme.

This, he said, was particularly as they were the managers of its corporate image.

“Consequently, I use this opportunity to appeal to my colleagues, the NYSC public relations officers to redouble their efforts and be more proactive in our public relations strategies.

“This is to ensure effective professional management of the corporate image of the scheme.”

He explained that the workshop would enable the participants embrace new knowledge on training on protocol and corporate reputation management.

Megwa said that the inclusion of implementation of the Freedom of Information Act would also enhance their skill to handle emerging trends on events management as well as strategies for handling the act. (NAN)
