GODWIN Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said that the newly redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes are now available in the commercial banks for issuance to members of the public.

This disclosure was made in a tweet in the official handle of the CBN following the visit of Emefiele to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura.

The CBN Governor also briefed President Buhari on the reintroduced cashless policy.

According to the CBN governor, the redesign of the banknotes and the cashless policies are not targeted at anybody, but are for the good and development of the country’s economy.

He noted that the CBN deferred the cashless policy severally to prepare and deepen Nigeria’s payments system infrastructure.

He therefore urged Nigerians to embrace the various electronic channels available for banking and financial service transactions in the country.

Emefiele enjoined Nigerians to take their old N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes to the banks before the January 31, 2023, deadline.
