SIX members of the Nasru-lahi-l-fatih (NASFAT) are going on a 10-day Advance training seminar on “Promoting Community Wellbeing” at the Toastan Training Centre, Thies, Senegal.
The Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, made this known on Friday in Lagos.
Onike said that the training was courtesy of the Carter Centre Inc., an NGO of the former American President, Mr Jimmy Carter.
He said the training was in consonance and in alignment with the newly introduced initiative of the society which emphasised Education and Livelihood as two of its cardinal principles.
According to him, it would be recalled that NASFAT recently introduced the HELD initiative, based on its conviction that addressing issues of Health, Education and Livelihood will help tackle poverty amongst members and promote wealth creation.
“Dawah will ensure that members become ethical, conscientious and God-fearing people, who are contributing positively to the growth of the nation.
“The society has benefited immensely from the collaboration with the Carter centre in the last four years,” he said.
Onike said that objectives of the training was to deepen the knowledge of participants on ways to promote community-led development through facilitated reflection on the theory of wellbeing, capacity to aspire, the nature and dynamic of social norm change.
“Participants at the seminar will have better understanding and be able to articulate the alignment between human rights principles and principles of Islam and Christianity.
“They will be able to contribute to creating inclusive movements for wellbeing within participants’ communities and network and also promote early childhood development practices,” the chief missioner said.
Onike, stating the underlying basis for the training, said: “Indeed, God will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
He said that the current set of trainees were the sixth set of 51 NASFAT members who have been trained so far.
Other participants are delegates from Ghana, Federation of Women Association of Nigeria, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria and Laura Olson from the Carter Centre Inc. Headquarters, Atlanta, U.S, representing the sponsor organisation. (NAN)
