THE Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, has charged corps members to report promptly to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) and endeavour to add value to their host communities.
Ahmed, represented by the Kaduna State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Agbor Obim, gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2023 batch ‘A’ Stream ‘1’ orientation course on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He also urged the corps members to accept their posting in good faith.
He admonished the corps members to strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards its progress and development.
The NYSC boss reminded the corps members that they would form a majority of the ad hoc staff for the upcoming General Elections and advised them to perform the election duties with high sense of responsibility.
He said: “You are to ensure adherence to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and, especially, remain neutral throughout the exercise.
“As you get set to partake in this important national assignment, I assure you that we have secured the commitment of INEC and security agencies regarding your welfare and safety before, during and after the elections.”
Ahmed further urged them to be law abiding and avoid acts that would undermine the scheme.
He appealed to corps employers to always accept corps members posted to them and make the necessary provisions for their welfare.
He urged them to “most importantly mentor them properly to enable them develop their potentials’.
Ahmed thanked the Federal Government for its unwavering support for the scheme.
He also commended the states, local governments, security agencies, traditional rulers, corps employers and other stakeholders, whose support, he said, had been contributing to the success of the scheme. (NAN)
