HOUSE of Representatives member-elect, Hon. Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko has felicitated with Nigerians as they celebrate 12 June Democracy Day
In his message marking 12 Democracy day, Ukodhiko, said, “The struggle for June 12 was a movement that was founded on patriotism and the great quest to redeem Nigeria.”
“As we know, June 12 is now a phenomenon. And the events and dramas about it are freshly green in our hearts.
“June 12 refers to Saturday June 12, 1993 when a presidential election that was regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest was held.
“The election won by Chief Abiola of the Social Democratic Party was an harbinger of hope for all Nigerians but it was annulled.
“And so, June 12 has become a symbol of democracy in Nigeria and it has been institutionalized and it befittingly and aptly wears the toga of Democracy Day in our nation.
“Today, as we mark democracy day, we must remember and celebrate the supreme martyr of the June 12 struggle and hero of our democracy, Chief Moshood Kashinmmawo Abiola, who laid down his life for the survival of democracy in Nigeria.
“We must also, remember Abiola’s intransigent wife, Kudirat, who was martyred, and the intrepid men and women whose words and actions and sacrifices aided, and sustained the suvivial of our nation’s democracy.
“This is the time for us all alive, to restate our hope and patriotism in our country, Nigeria, and reaffirm our commitment to unity, peace, social justice, values which underpin our democracy.
“We must encourage a pan-Nigerian temperament and we must rededicate ourselves to nationhood, and put our country on the glorious path of redemption and sustainable greatness.
“We must seriously and sincerely explore strategies of ending the menace of terrorism, insecurity and socioeconomic injustice and the state of stagnation.”
The Isoko Federal lawmaker-elect, Ukodhiko stated, that “This time calls for genuine and purposeful dialogue, negotiation and understanding as we celebrate this year’s Democracy Day.
“I heartily felicitate with the people of Isoko Federal Constituency and Nigerians on the 2023 Democracy Day today June 12.
“Let me reassure the people of Isoko and Nigeria of good enabling laws that will see to the delivery of the desired dividends of democracy.” Ukodhiko added
