Reps Ukodhiko harps on national unity at 2024 Armed Forces Day

MEMBER representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko has harped on the need of Nigerians to recommit themselves to unity and nation-building as the country marks the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15.

Rep Ukodhiko in a statement on Monday by his Special Assistant in Media and Publicity, Mr Ajiri-Oghene Oreh, paid glowing tribute to the brave soldiers who died while defending the country, leaving behind widows and children.

According to the Isoko federal lawmaker, “January 15 is a day set aside every year to remember and celebrate those who fought to keep Nigeria One during the Civil War fought from 1967 to 1970.”

Ukodhiko, deputy chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology saluted the acts of courage, patriotism and loyalty of the Nigerian soldiers who contributed to the nation surviving the war, saying that, “the Nigerian soldiers are exceptionally gallant and highly resourceful”

The PDP’s federal legislator stated that, “We are eternally grateful to the late Nigerian soldiers, and their successors for their sacrifices to keeping our country, Nigeria united.

“I must appeal to all Nigerians to seize the opportunity of this year’s Armed Forces Day to remember the families left behind by the ex-soldiers and, work towards the promotion of unity and development of our nation.

Ukodhiko warned against acts such as nepotism, corruption, tribalism, religion intolerance that would lead to hostilities and wars in the country, calling for demonstrations of the true spirit of Nigerianism. 

“Yes, we should endeavor to live in unity despite the differences in our religion, ethnicity, political affiliations, managing our diversities as it will make our country indivisible and stronger.

“As we remember our heroes past for today, let’s re-commit ourselves to our national pledge to be faithful, loyal and honest, to serve Nigeria with all our strength, to defend her unity and uphold her honor and glory.

Ukodhiko urged Nigerians not to give up on the nation, but be hopeful, and show more commitment to nation building.
