THE House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to immediately commence the rehabilitation of Okpella/Okene road linking Edo and Kogi.
This followed the adoption of a motion on the “Need to Rehabilitate Okpella/Okene road”, sponsored by Rep. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha (APC-Abia) at Wednesday’s plenary.
Presenting the motion, Onyejeocha said that, the deplorable state of the road which link southeast and South-South to the Federal Capital Territory demanded urgent attention.
She equally noted that, the bad condition of the road has led to economic losses and untold hardship on motorists and commuters who spent days on the road due to its deplorable condition.
“Am worried that as the 2021 raining season approaches, it reminds us of the harrowing experiences that motorists and commuters go through every year on the road.
” Of particular note is the Okpella/Okene portion of the road, the deplorable condition of the road has encouraged criminal activities such as kidnappings and armed robbery.
“And if rehabilitation work is not carried out on this portion of the road before the rain sets in, traveling would be a nightmare,” Onyejeocha said. (NAN)
