RESIDENTS in Enugu have congratulated Dr Peter Mbah of the PDP on his emergence as the  state governor-elect after a rigorous electoral exercise.

They also charged him to address and tackle infrastructure decay in the state when he resumed duty to alleviate their plight.

Some of them who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday, said the state had been eight years backward and underdeveloped which they believed Mbah would transform.

They decried the deplorable state of schools, hospitals and roads in the state capital as well as the water scarcity, urging him to resort to  urgent action about them.

Mr Peter Okoye tasked Mbah, as a matter of urgency, to address the issue perennial water scarcity in Enugu, stressing that many of them spent a lot of money treating typhoid on monthly basis due to lack of access to drinking water.

According to him, the residents spend huge sum of money to buy water from tanker drivers before they could get water.

“So, I am pleading with Peter Mbah to ensure there is drinking water for all during his administration and also make sure that people of the state got it at cheaper rate,” he said.

Gift Okonkwo, a Civil Servant, urged him to upgrade the existing health centres in the state for effective service delivery, stating that access to healthcare had been a bane to many residents.

She also said there were need for Mbah to improve the standard of education in the state and reconstruct many dilapidated school buildings, especially in the rural areas.

“He should also ensure that pension and gratuity are paid to retirees and improve the workers’ welfare,” she added.

Mr Jerry Ndubisi, while congratulating Mbah on his success at the polls, the resident charged him on the construction and rehabilitation of Enugu road, stressing that many roads, in the state capital were an eyesore.

“We don’t want patching of roads again but reconstruction of them”, adding that many of the roads at Abakpa, Ologo, Maryland and other areas of the state were in very pitiable situation.

He also advised the governor elect not to abandon his manifesto but work with it, to bring more development for the state. (NAN)
