Residents decry activities of touts in Onitsha

RESIDENTS and business operators in Onitsha metropolis have again appealed to the Anambra State Government to check the activities of touts and illegal revenue collectors in the commercial city.
A cross section of the people who spoke to newsmen in Onitsha accused the illegal revenue collectors of forcefully collecting all forms of levies from them, in spite of government‘s directives to the contrary.
A resident, Chief Onyekachi Asusioso called on the state government not to allow the relative peace currently enjoyed by the people to be disrupted by the activities of people he said, never wished the present administration well.
Another resident, Mr Obumadike Ejiofor condemned the attitude of the illegal revenue collectors, most of who, he said operated at various parts of the metropolis with illegal papers, allegedly issued to them by government.
A trader, Mrs Evelyn Okonkwo called on government to check the activities of these illegal revenue collectors, so as to save the state from embarrassments.
Mrs Okonkwo described these collectors as threat to peace and stability of the state, urging government to do something urgently to arrest the situation. ##
