CP Mike Okoli, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa Command, has urged Officers and Men of the Command to shun brutality and intimidation of the public, but to serve and protect them.

He stated this on Saturday night, during a sent forth organised by the Command at the Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the retiring CP ssumed duty in Bayelsa Command on July 25, 2020.

Okoli commended the officers and men of the Bayelsa Police Command for their cordial relationship and the warm reception accoded him.

He said that it was a good thing to retire in good health and also to serve humanity and the general public.

“You have to prepare for your retirement early enough, so that when it comes it will be easy for the individual.

“Police job is not for dull individuals, or failures, who think ‘if no option let’s just try police work’.

“Always do policing with the fear of God, show honesty, integrity, and seriousness in all your assignments.

“When I was posted here in Bayelsa I told my people that we are here to fight crime, and no place for criminals in the state,” he said.

He urged them to continue as he had set a template for them, to follow the standard he had set for the officers and men of the command.

Okoli said that Bayelsa was rated amongst the safest states in Nigeria as people sleep with their two eyes closed.

He said that without a peaceful environment business could never thrive noting that investors had started coming to Bayelsa as a haven.

In his part, the Chairman, Eminent Persons Forum, Mr Robert Enua, commended the outgoing CP for his stewardship as the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa.

Enua, a former lawmaker, described the outgoing CP as a professional who had paid his dues for 35 years with the Nigeria Police Force.

He said that during the #EndSARS protest and IPOB challenges he never allowed them to come close to Bayelsa because of his professionalism in policing.

Also, AIG Don Awunah, who is also a former Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, commended the outgoing CP for his uprightness in tackling crimes.

He said Okoli was a seasoned Police Officer who knew his duty beyond all odds and had taken the force to the next level in Bayelsa.

NAN reports that while the CP was retiring two Deduty Commissioners in the Command, were also promoted to rank of Commissioners of Police in the just released list of promoted officers. (NAN)
